The mela has settled into a pattern of early to mid November. According to Dawn, the 2024 edition began on 8 November and ran to 17 November. For 2025, Radio Pakistan and ProPakistani reported 7 to 16 November. In both years the dates were announced only a few weeks in advance, with ProPakistani publishing the 2025 announcement on 15 October.

Lok Mela 2026: Status as of October 2026

As of 9 October 2026, we could not find an official announcement of Lok Mela 2026 dates. Given the past pattern, a November 2026 edition is plausible, but that is an expectation, not a confirmation. Announcements have tended to appear in mid to late October, so check back in the coming weeks. We will update this guide when Lok Virsa confirms dates, timings and tickets.

Lok Virsa’s e-ticketing page appeared to be unavailable when we checked, so do not rely on any single ticketing link you find on social media without verifying it through Lok Virsa itself.

Lok Mela 2025 Edition: What Happened

The 2025 mela ran for ten days, from 7 to 16 November, and was linked to Lok Virsa’s Golden Jubilee. Coverage by The Express Tribune described the opening under the theme “Yakjehti k Rang, Lok Virsa k Sang”, with pavilions for Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, plus an international pavilion with delegates from 12 countries, double the number from the previous year according to ProPakistani.

Highlights reported included live folk and Sufi music, traditional dance, folk theatre and the revived Putli Tamasha puppet show, craft demonstrations such as pottery, leatherwork and stone carving, and food stalls offering regional favourites like Balochi sajji and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s special tea. Evening music nights drew large crowds, according to Tribune’s coverage. Timings and Entry Fee

This is where information is patchy, so here is what is known and what is not.

• Timings: Our earlier post listed 10 am to 10 pm daily for 2025. However, Radio Pakistan said the festival would open at 4 pm on its first day, and neither Dawn, Tribune nor ProPakistani gave daily hours. Treat 10 am to 10 pm as unconfirmed and check Lok Virsa before going.
• Entry fee: Reports and listings gave different figures, and no news source we checked stated a ticket price. We are not publishing a price we cannot verify. Confirm the current fee, and any concession for students, with Lok Virsa.

What to See at the Lok Mela

Provincial and Regional Pavilions

Each province, plus Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, gets its own pavilion. Expect regional crafts, costumes, music and food. Walking through them in order is a quick lesson in Pakistan’s diversity.

Live Craft Demonstrations

Master artisans work in public: potters, leather workers, stone carvers, embroiderers and woodworkers. This is the best place to learn how a piece is made and buy it directly from the maker.

Folk Music and Dance

Stages host folk and Sufi musicians, drum circles and dance troupes. Evening programmes tend to be the busiest, so arrive early if you want a good seat.

Puppet Shows and Folk Theatre

Putli Tamasha and folk theatre were revived in recent editions and are a favourite with children. Check the daily programme for show times.

Food Stalls

Regional dishes are a big draw. Reports from the 2025 mela mention sajji, chapli kebab, Sindhi biryani and local sweets. Carry small cash notes in case card machines are slow.

International Pavilion

The 2025 edition hosted participants from 12 countries. The countries were not named in the sources we checked, so look for the final list when the 2026 programme is published.

How to Reach Lok Virsa, Shakarparian

Lok Virsa is in the Shakarparian area of Islamabad, near the Pakistan Monument and the Shakarparian hills. No official directions were published in the sources we checked, so use a maps app and search for “Lok Virsa” or “Pakistan Museum of Folk and Traditional Heritage”. Ride-hailing apps and taxis are the simplest option on busy evenings. Organisers coordinated parking and entry arrangements with Islamabad authorities in 2025, according to ICCI, but parking can still fill quickly on weekends, so allow extra time.

How to Plan Your Lok Mela Visit

A little planning makes the mela far more enjoyable. Start by deciding what matters most to your group. Families with young children usually enjoy the puppet shows, craft demonstrations and food stalls in the afternoon, while friends and couples often prefer the evening music programmes. Students and photographers should arrive earlier in the day, when light is better and the pavilions are less crowded.

Give yourself at least three hours. The grounds are spread out, and stopping to talk with artisans, who are usually happy to explain their work, takes longer than most people expect. If you plan to shop, walk through once before buying so you can compare crafts, prices and quality across pavilions. Buying directly from the maker is the whole point of the mela, and it helps preserve traditional skills that are slowly disappearing.
