The report names Sandspit as the main site it describes and does not mention Hawke’s Bay specifically, so it is wise to treat Sandspit and Hawke’s Bay as one connected stretch of coastline when you plan a visit.

Four people still drowned at Hawkesbay on July 31, and police set up checkposts at Sandspit, Manora and Hawkesbay. In June 2025, Dawn reported an eight-day ban on five unguarded beaches (Kannup, Sunerah, Mubarak Village, Turtle and Dua Chowk) until June 13, while Sandspit, Hawkesbay, Paradise Point and Seaview were described as guarded by lifeguards and law enforcers. Officials also said bans could be extended to other beaches during the monsoon.
